Heteromeles arbutifolia, or known as Toyon, is an evergreen tree, getting to be 20' tall by 20' wide, has beautiful berries that turn from green to red in the winter. It is really an all year spectacle: Gorgeous flowers in the spring, then berries from late spring-mid summer, then berries start to turn red in November, to give the bright red Xmas berry show in Dec-Jan.
Hollywood was named after this shrub: Hollywoodland was the name of the area named after the holly-like berries in the winter.
