Arbutus menziesii

Arbutus menziesii, or Madrone, is a spectacular tree that is found in north slopes from Southern California north to British Columbia. It needs heavy mulching, and a good amount of water, as well as a lot of shade.  It can grow to about 40' tall by 60' wide. The berries are edible, but the birds get them first.
