These are a few of the designs we have come up with for native Habitats. The addition of mounds and boulders creates differences in elevation, layers, and texture. With use of complementary colors in foliage and flowers, not only does the yard look gorgeous, it functions as a natural habitat that attracts insects, birds, and butterflies. The native plants encourage mycorrhyzae, type of fungus that is symbiotic with the roots, and once an area is rehabilitated with natives, the mycorrhyzae can actually keep invasive weeds out! It literally forms a "wood wide web" from species to species, benefitting them. It is so rewarding to redesign a yard from boring lawn to a Native Habitat!!!
